Double the Size, Half the Time

In the ever present fervor of a new year, I long to seriously challenge my routine time-intensive practice formed during my Happy Vacui series. So, to accompany my debut solo exhibition, I will be beginning and finishing the largest painting to date of this series in half the shortest amount of time taken to complete a piece.

My goal is to test my typical way of working: to intuitively paint and layer numerous pieces simultaneously, rotating pieces out and letting them sulk in my studio until I aimlessly return to them at an undetermined time, if at all.

Starting a blank 48” x 60” canvas on February 14th – in a temporary studio space established in the gallery – I will be layering and painting it daily until my show closes on February 28th. This will mark two weeks exactly from start to finish.

I would like to extend an open invite to any and all to come visit me while I work, to chat, question, look, help, or bring found objects to collage.

3/6/19 Final Thoughts:

This was, in the end, an experiment for me… to break my slow-moving pace and work outside of my home studio in an open, makeshift space. I did not finish the painting. I made solid progress, but it is far from resolved. I more deeply appreciate having my studio in my home now than I did a few weeks ago. It is what works for me at this point, and I love it.
